Today, we signed a framework agreement with Siemens Energy, Hitachi Energy and GE Vernova for the supply of 110 kV and 150 kV gas insulated switchgear (GIS) installations. The agreement has a total contract value of €180 million. This contract sum is mainly for new 150 kV switching stations in the Amsterdam area and the Rotterdam port area. The expansion of the electricity grid is highly needed to meet the rapidly increasing demand for new and heavier connections.

Intelligent use of wind and cooling creates more transmission capacity  

Tariffs for the transmission of electricity through our high-voltage grids will increase in the coming years, after a slight decrease in 2025 and 2026. Until 2035, we expect the HS (high voltage) tariff to increase by 4.7% per year and the EHS (extra high voltage) tariff by 4.3%1. This is stated in our ten-year forecast published today.

One of TenneT TSO B.V.'s tasks is to coordinate the restoration of electricity supply in the event of a blackout. To perform this task, TenneT needs facilities ("blackstart facilities") that can bring a de-energised grid under voltage in a situation where a large part of the national high-voltage grid is de-energised. This will allow TenneT to further coordinate the restoration of electricity supply from there and allow other power generation units to start up.

TenneT pushes ahead with offshore grid expansion: First cable production for 2 GW grid connection systems starts

On behalf of TenneT, the undercarriage (jacket) for the Hollandse Kust (west Beta) transformer platform was successfully placed on the seabed off the North Holland coast during the past Pentecost weekend. The ready-made superstructure (topside) will be installed next year. Wind farm operator RWE/OranjeWind can then connect the wind farm, which will be built at sea in a few years, to this 'socket at sea'.

TenneT delivers 2023 results with a record high of EUR 7.7 billion in grid investments coping with grid congestion and bottlenecks.

Among other things, TenneT wants to extend the existing national 380 kV grid, for example between Groningen - Ens, Ens - Diemen and Geertruidenberg-Krimpen aan den IJssel or Crayestein. Before it is clear where these new 'high voltage highways' will be located and the responsible ministers can make (spatial) decisions, a lot of research is needed.

The recent election results have put the spotlight on crucial issues such as livelihood security, affordability and the energy transition. The need for solutions and stable government policies that offer perspective and confidence is widely felt. In line with this, we call for consistent and decisive leadership from the new government in advancing the climate and energy transition in the Netherlands. On a 150 kV high-voltage line between Dodewaard and Ede, TenneT conducted a pilot with drones to hang wire markers for birds. A first in the Netherlands. Normally, TenneT works with helicopters or cranes and climbers are used to install wire markings. Using a drone is both more environmentally friendly and cost-efficient, as it does not require heavy machinery on land or helicopters to fly.

TenneT to receive €25 billion loan from the Dutch State to facilitate electricity grid expansion

After extensive preparation and three years of construction on land and sea, the grid connection for Hollandse Kust (west) Alpha is officially ready for commissioning. This means that wind farm operator Ecowende can connect the wind turbines, which will be located about 50 kilometers off the coast of Egmond aan Zee, to grid operator TenneT's 'socket' at sea.

The Hollandse Kust Noord wind farm, located 18.5 kilometres off the coast of IJmuiden, became operational on December 20. The wind farm was built by CrossWind, a joint venture between Shell and Eneco. It will add 759 MW of renewable energy to the Dutch electricity grid after final commissioning. The completion of Hollandse Kust Noord will achieve a target in the Netherlands of more than 4.5 GW of offshore wind by the end of 2023.

TenneT has received 47 reactions to the draft investment plans 2024-2033. The new plans were published on November 1, and so-called views on them could be submitted for a period of 4 weeks. TenneT will use the coming weeks to process the responses. The investment plans will be submitted to the regulator ACM in early January.

25 years of TenneT: working together for a sustainable future

TenneT, in collaboration with contractor Equans/Smulders, has placed several artificial reefs near the offshore transformer platform Hollandse Kust (west Alpha) to gain further knowledge about nature-inclusive construction. This offshore transformer platform will connect the Ecowende (Shell/Eneco) consortium wind farm to the high voltage grid. The aim is to build this wind farm with a healthy ecosystem and as little impact on nature as possible. The artificial reefs are part of a series of ecological measures by TenneT to monitor and encourage nature around offshore wind farms.

The Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM) published  TenneT's tariff proposal for 2024. Electricity prices in Europe rose significantly from the second half of 2021. These high prices have continued into 2022, making them about five times higher than prices in the first quarter of 2021. These price increases also affect the level of TenneT's transmission tariffs in 2024.

TenneT inspected six high-voltage connections in Drenthe, Groningen and Overijssel this week. During the flight, the helicopter took aerial photos and scans of high-voltage connections using special cameras and sensors. It is the first time we used a helicopter for this. Siemens Energy carried out the work for us.

TenneT has signed a EUR 8 billion Credit Facility to finance its increasing investments in the energy transition 

TenneT has signed multi-year framework agreements with Allseas and Heerema Marine Contractors for transport and installation of at least fourteen 2 gigawatt (2GW) offshore platforms. The fourteen 2GW converter stations will be installed in the Dutch and German parts of the North Sea. The framework agreement covers at least twenty-eight slots until 2031; fourteen slots for transport and installation of a jacket and fourteen slots for transport and installation of a topside.
