Offshore Netherlands
The Netherlands is heading towards a sustainable energy supply. Wind is an important source of sustainable electricity. Wind on land, and especially: wind at sea. TenneT is the offshore grid operator. This means it’s TenneT’s responsibility to ensure that offshore wind farms are connected to the onshore grid via the offshore grid to enable the use of the energy that is generated at sea. Construction of the offshore grid contributes to TenneT’s ambition to be a driving force behind the energy transition.

Fewer costs and inconveniences
Several wind farms are grouped together in a wind energy area. The offshore grid ensures that these wind farms are combined as much as possible for connection to the national high-voltage grid. This means fewer cables and shore points are needed. That reduces costs significantly and is less disruptive for the environment.
