Programme 2023

Between now and the end of 2023, TenneT will realise 3,500 megawatts (MW) of offshore connections, in a standardised concept of 700 MW per connection. This will make an important contribution to the Energy Agreement signed in 2013.

What is it about?

The offshore grid transports wind energy generated offshore to the mainland’s electricity grid. This occurs from three wind energy areas in the North Sea. These are the Borssele, Hollandse Kust (south) and Hollandse Kust (north) wind energy areas. The government has designated these areas for generating more sustainable energy. Together the wind energy areas yield enough electricity for 5 million households.

Offshore platforms

Platforms make up an essential part of the offshore grid. TenneT is building 5 identical platforms for the 2023 programme, to transport a total of 3,500 MW of wind energy to the mainland. Standardising these platforms will produce a substantial reduction in the costs of development, construction and maintenance.
