Balance responsible parties

Balance responsible parties (BRPs) are responsible for maintaining supply and demand on the energy market within their own portfolio.

BRPs are financially responsible for maintaining the balance between supply and demand of energy within their portfolio. All connections have a corresponding BRP. Together all BRPs represent all connections within a scheduling area (for example in the Netherlands). Prior to real-time the BRP indicates in its schedule what the expected production, consumption and external trade is.

This prognosis is compared to the realised generation/consumption and trade. The difference is settled per portfolio against the imbalance price. During real-time BRPs in the Netherlands receive information on the expected imbalance pricethrough the TenneT website, enabling the BRP to earn additional income by adjusting his generation or consumption and supporting the system balance.
