Our grid

TenneT manages the high-voltage grid in the Netherlands and large parts of Germany. TenneT transmits electricity at 110,000 volts (110 kV) and higher. With over 22,500 kilometres of high-voltage lines, we cross borders and connect countries.

About the project


The DolWin2 project sees TenneT building a 135-kilometre direct current connection. With a capacity of 916 megawatts, it can connect the Nordsee One, Gode Wind I and Gode Wind II wind farms to the onshore transmission grid.

These wind farms are situated between approx. 45 and 60 kilometres off the coast. The offshore converter platform DolWin beta was successfully installed in August 2015. The innovative structural design simplified its installation, which did not require any pile driving in the sea floor nor assistance of a crane vessel.  The onshore route from the coast to the new converter station Dörpen West in the Emsland district is around 90 km long and was completed in the summer of 2014. In Dörpen West, the direct current is converted into alternating current and fed into the transmission grid via the high-voltage substation. Since the spring of 2016, the connected wind farms can feed power into the grid via the DolWin2 connection.
