The Supervisory Board has nominated Maarten Abbenhuis as Chief Operations Officer (COO) on the Executive Board of TenneT Holding B.V., alongside COO Tim Meyerjürgens. Maarten Abbenhuis succeeds Ben Voorhorst, who will leave TenneT on 1 June 2021 after an impressive career within TenneT of twenty-five years.

After an intensive recruitment and selection process, the Supervisory Board has proposed Maarten Abbenhuis to the shareholder, the State of the Netherlands, as statutory director of TenneT Holding B.V. Maarten Abbenhuis will take over from Ben Voorhorst as of January 1, 2021. Ben Voorhorst has fulfilled this role as TenneT's operational director with verve over the past 14 years.

The Supervisory Board and Executive Board are pleased that an internal successor has been found. Maarten Abbenhuis has gained many years of experience within TenneT in various management positions and has grown strongly with the developments and ambitions of the organization to safeguard the security of supply and to realize the European energy transition sustainably and safely. Maarten Abbenhuis is currently responsible for the 'beating heart' of TenneT, namely the System Operations department for the Netherlands and Germany.

Ab van der Touw, Chairman of the Supervisory Board: "During the 14 years that Ben Voorhorst has been working as COO, TenneT has undergone an unprecedented development. The Supervisory Board is extremely grateful to Ben Voorhorst for his visionary leadership. Under his down-to-earth and competent leadership, TenneT has grown into a leading TSO in Northwest Europe and a driving force behind the energy transition".

Ben Voorhorst: "I have always experienced it as a privilege and a pleasure to work for TenneT. This year I'm celebrating my 25th anniversary at TenneT and this seemed like a good time to hand over the baton. I am looking forward to broadening my horizons after my departure. I will definitely remain active in the energy world. I am happy with the choice for Maarten Abbenhuis. Maarten is smart, energetic and inspiring. He is the right new COO to take the energy transition further. "

Maarten Abbenhuis: "I am very grateful to TenneT for the opportunity offered to me, not only now but also in previous appointments. The development of employees is really central at TenneT. Ben Voorhorst has meant a lot to TenneT, to the energy sector and to me personally. In the coming years I will be able to continue building the energy system of the future for which Ben Voorhorst, with his twenty-five years of dedication, knowledge and ambition, has laid an important foundation. I look back on a great collaboration and will do everything in my power to further shape TenneT's growth as Ben's successor. "
