Our key tasks

We are primarily tasked with providing power transmission services, system services and facilitating the energy market. Our core tasks follow from our appointment as grid operator under the Dutch 'Elektriciteitswet' (E-wet) and the German 'Energiewirtschaftsgesetz' (EnWG).

Electricity market

The energy sector is developing rapidly. The process of European market integration began some years ago. Its purpose is to create a single European market that enables market parties to trade gas and electricity across national borders easily and efficiently.

Transparency data

We provide transparency data on our operations on our Dutch and German transparency page and on ENTSO-E.

To transparency pages

TenneT is a leading European electricity transmission system operator (TSO), with activities in the Netherlands and in Germany. We strive to ensure a reliable and uninterrupted supply of electricity in our high-voltage grid for some 41 million people.

Individual grid charges as per §19 para. 2 Clause 1 StromNEV

In accordance with §19, section 2 S. 1 StromNEV, TenneT TSO GmbH is required to offer an end consumer, in deviation from § 16 StromNEV, an individual grid charge if, based on existing or forecasted consumption data or based on technical or contractual circumstances, it is apparent that the peak load of an end consumer foreseeably deviates considerably from the simultaneous annual peak load of all sampling of this grid or transformer level.

Individual grid charges

According to the requirements of the BNetzA (Regulation of Power Network Charges), TenneT TSO GmbH must determine the respective peak load windows for the four seasons for each grid connection level (extra high voltage and transformation extra high/high-voltage).

Based on these peak load time windows, TenneT TSO GmbH shall offer an individual grid charge in accordance with § 19, section 2, clause 1 StromNEV to an end consumer, whose electricity consumption from the grid of the transmission grid operator for its own consumption at the customer's sampling point deviated considerably from the application filed in the past calendar year, or it can be shown credibly that a considerable deviation (see threshold of significance) of the annual peak load will occur for the following year.

BNetzA on calculation of the atypical network use

Decisive for the network charge calculation of the atypical network use is the Bundesnetzagentur's documents from January 1st, 2014.

Individual grid charge

Grid / transformer level Threshold of significance
MaxVolt. 5%
Extra high/high-volt. 10%

The agreement to be made with the network user for reduced network charges in accordance with § 19, section 2, clause 1 StromNEV is subject to approval from BNetzA, and only becomes valid after presentation of the notice of approval.
