Our grid

TenneT manages the high-voltage grid in the Netherlands and large parts of Germany. TenneT transmits electricity at 110,000 volts (110 kV) and higher. With around 23,500 kilometres of high-voltage lines, we cross borders and connect countries.

How does feed-in management work?

Why is feed-in management necessary?

With the aid of feed-in management from TenneT TSO GmbH, grid operating resources such as overhead lines or transformers are protected from overloads. Without feed-in management, sections of the grid could become overloaded during strong wind, leading to supply failures.

Feed-in management enables the optimal use of the grids for the incorporation of wind energy without also endangering the security of supply. The only alternative would be to stop the expansion of the system until the necessary grid reinforcement measures have been completed.

Technische Umsetzung:

Anlagen, welche sich direkt am Netz der TenneT TSO GmbH befinden, werden beim Einspeisemanagement direkt von der Netzführung über eine Prozessdatenschnittstelle (siehe Download rechts) angesteuert. Hierfür muss der Anlagenbetreiber eine technischen Einrichtungen gemäß § 9 EEG vorhalten, damit der Netzbetreiber die Einspeiseleistung reduzieren bzw. die Ist-Einspeisung abrufen kann. 

Information obligation 

Pursuant to the EEG, grid operators must inform plant operators about anticipated measures. TenneT publishes usage reports on feed-in management. The usage reports contain

  • the measure's ID 
  • the affected region subject to the feed-in management
  • the cause of the measure
  • the start and end of the measure
  • the levels invoked as well as the start and end of the respectively invoked level.
