Electricity market

The energy sector is developing rapidly. The process of European market integration began some years ago. Its purpose is to create a single European market that enables market parties to trade gas and electricity across national borders easily and efficiently.

Quotes of suppliers

Increasingly more suppliers have become certified at Level 3 or 4 of the Safety Culture Ladder. We at TenneT are very pleased about this. On this page you will find the (abbreviated) responses of various suppliers.

Wencop Hoveniers, Landscaping Firm (NL)

"How it all started is that we were invited by TenneT to participate in a Safety Awareness course. We learned a great deal in this course. TenneT then approached us asking if we wanted to undertake the SCL Level 3 certification. We're quite ready to admit that initially we were somewhat sceptical about this. Naturally, safety has always been very important for us and we were already SCC and ISO-certified, and we thought 'not another certificate'. But fortunately, we ended up saying yes anyway."

Michael Berghöfer Schädlingsbekämpfung, Pest Control (DE)

"In comparison with traditional management systems, such as ISO 9001, the added value of the approach is the discussions, not what is on paper. This means that the emphasis is on people, rather than bureaucracy. The SCL certification process naturally requires a great deal of effort, but for us it was worth it. Continuous improvement is in our own interest."

De Haven b.v., Mechanical Engineering & Construction Company (NL)

"My lesson is that putting everything on paper and discussing it in accordance with the SCC does not mean that by definition everything is in order and safe, or is expected to be that way. The ladder (self-assessment) currently is too elaborate for us, but the central theme is clear. We went into it with a blank slate, without any prior actions. It was quite a gamble, but fortunately everything turned out well for us. We are now going to work on a system that will include all of the ladder's competencies."

EUROPTEN Transmission Germany GmbH, Overhead Lines (DE)

"After initial scepticism, it is our experience that the SCL can help us promote and develop a safety culture as an H&S management pillar. By imposing specific requirements on business units and various aspects, that in turn are interrelated, new ideas and processes have been developed at a cultural level. The auditors quickly became familiar with our philosophy and were fairly non-intrusive in the conduct of their audit, so that we were able to proceed with our daily activities without any restrictions. This way they became familiar with all aspects of our H&S culture."

De Romein Groep B.V., Civil works (NL)

"It's really an experience audit. That's how we announced it to our employees. The only thing we told our employees was that every answer had to be sincere and honest, there are no right or wrong answers, it's the way the interviewed person experiences safety. An external audit can better "bring in" the importance of safe working and safety behaviour to the employees than an observation round.  The results were not disappointing. We can still make sufficient improvements in various areas. Our management takes up this challenge."

Silva & Vinha S.A., Overhead lines (PT)

"SCL certification helped us to consolidate the goals that we were pursuing a long time: increase safety awareness, reduce unsafe acts and contribute towards continuous improvement in safety performance and culture in Silva & Vinha. We are today a stronger company, with a settled safety culture, being the first and only with this certification in Portugal. Thank you TenneT!"
