We are primarily tasked with providing power transmission services, system services and facilitating the energy market. Our core tasks follow from our appointment as grid operator under the Dutch 'Elektriciteitswet' (E-wet) and the German 'Energiewirtschaftsgesetz' (EnWG).

Our grid

TenneT manages the high-voltage grid in the Netherlands and large parts of Germany. TenneT transmits electricity at 110,000 volts (110 kV) and higher. With over 22,000 kilometres of high-voltage lines, we cross borders and connect countries.

About offshore projects Netherlands

The government has appointed TenneT as the operator of the Dutch offshore grid. As the offshore grid operator, TenneT can realize its ambition to facilitate the transition to a more renewable energy supply as laid out by the government.

Transition to a more renewable energy supply

Until 2023, TenneT will develop offshore projects as defined in the National Energy Agreement. This is TenneT's "Programme Offshore Grid". TenneT is committed to an intensive stakeholder consultation process concerning the development of the concept and realization of the offshore grid infrastructure

For the long term, TenneT has presented its vision for the Hub & Spoke concept for large scale developments on the North Sea.

Programme offshore grid

By means of the National Energy Agreement, the Dutch government wants to achieve a substantial increase in the share of wind energy in the Netherlands’ energy mix. To increase offshore wind energy capacity, the government has designated three zones in the North Sea for the development of new wind farms.

Net op zee Borssele

The grid connection of the future 'Borssele' offshore wind farm will be a line of 1400 megawatts (MW), consisting of two connections each of 700 MW. The Borssele grid connection will comprise two platforms that TenneT will build (called Alpha and Beta). Borssele will go into service in 2019.
